Ru is an independent, pop/soul, London-based, multi-instrumentalist singer/songwriter.
Ru's songs include a mix of intriguing funky rhythms, with catchy pop melodies and jazz-influenced scat solos. The lyrics deliver a powerful, inspiring message that leaves the listener feeling motivated and ready to take on the world.
Live shows include original music as well as uniquely arranged popular songs creating a sound array that incorporates improvisation, fun crowd interaction, and groove-centred music.
The single “Summer Blaze” that was released in 2015 received worldwide radio airplay including UK radio Stations such as BBC Devon and BBC Manchester, GBC TV/radio station, Adelaide Radiostation, Australia, Seabreeze Radiostation Florida.
It was performed at the World Press Cartoon 2015 award ceremony.
Ru has a self-managed career that includes 102 concerts in 2014 and 112 in 2015, including performances at the Liuna Downsview Park Festival in Toronto for crowds of 70 thousand.
In October 2014 Ru was humbly chosen to perform at the Presidential Palace in Portugal. As a songwriter, Ru has written songs for finalist contestants of the Portuguese Idol and X Factor contests as well as various international artists and movies.
Ru's song “Emilia" was featured in award-winning German Movie “Stefan Zweig – Farewell to Europe”.
"So Many Reasons" was featured as the soundtrack of the TV
séries "I love it” and peaked at Number 1 on the Reverb Nation Music Chart in 2013.
Towards the close of 2016, Ru was a finalist on the Open Mic UK contest 2016, winning a Charthouse Music Award.
The following years included shows at Oxjam Music Festival London, Mapp Festival in Worcester, Gibraltar Music Festival, The legendary Troubador London, Tramp Members Club, Sunsets na Relva Music Festival Lisbon, Festival da Canção (Pre-Eurovision) Final live TV show at the Lisbon Coliseum where Ru was invited to perform with the Overnight Sensation Soul Orkestra band which included fellow colleagues: Rita Guerra, Miguel Angelo, Tatanka - Black Mamba, NBC, Susana Félix and Marta Hugon.
Her career includes various live performances for London music Industry events for Subdivision London and radio shows all over Europe.
In 2018 Ru was invited to perform for the Portuguese Ambassador at his residency in London to celebrate “Portuguese Language Day”. The Ambassador himself referred to Ru’s performance as “exceptional” and Ru received much praise from a crowd that included some of he most influential people in the world.
Ru has collaborated with various international artists including Cassell the Beatmaker (The Streets, Plan B, Ady Suleiman), Eric Appappoulay (Natasha Beddingfield), Finnish producer Awakem, London based grime rapper KD and the duet acoustic ballad "Last Time" with South African artist Gui.
She is currently under the radar of some of the most influential names in the UK music industry.
Ru's personal style is pop greatly influenced by funk, soul, jazz, bossa nova and World Music. The release of Ru's first solo EP “About Time” produced by Cassell the Beatmaker which includes the brand new songs “Clean Slate” and “Holding on” is planned for this year.
Influences include Jamiroquai, Amy Winehouse, Snarky Puppy, Lianne La Havas, Joss Stone, Corinne Bailey Rae, and Oasis.
